Penukonda of Anatapur - Summer Resort for the Vijayanagar Kings

Penukonda - Gagan Mahal
Penukonda is also called as Ghangari by the local inscriptions. The architectural structure of the fort exhibits the strategic view and splendid plan of the Medieval time. Inside fort, temples are there.
The fort was the capital of Vijayanagara Empire for the short time.

The Gagan Mahal built in 1575 A.D inside fort was used as a summer resort for the Vijayanagara Kings. The Babayya Darga shows the symbol of Communal unity between Muslims and Hindus.

How to reach Penukonda, Ananthapur?

By Road: Penukonda is a tourist attraction, 50 km from Ananthapur. It is located on Bangalore highways. The place is well connected by road and have frequent bus and private transportion from Anathapur to Penukonda.

By Rail: The near by railway station  is Penakunda Jn Railway station
